Leading recruiter Acorn announces record £2m week

Matt5Leading UK recruitment and training company Acorn Group has announced a record £2m-plus week for revenue in which it placed more than 5,000 workers in temporary employment across the UK.

More than 650 Acorn clients were provided with temporary workers during the week ending October 2, including in Wales staff to man part of the Ryder Cup operation at the Celtic Manor Resort near Newport. It was the company’s best single week for earnings in its 18-year history.

Acorn, with 42 office locations UK-wide, has seen a steady growth in demand for temporary staff, with several sectors experiencing increased staffing requirements such as manufacturing in food and heavy industries, IT, general industrial and nursing and healthcare.

But the business is also experiencing an increase in demand for permanent staff from some companies that cut back at the height of recession, and are now finding the confidence to rebuild their workforce numbers.

This has resulted in increased business activity for the Acorn Group, which includes the subsidiaries leading South West of England recruiter Concept Staffing, and specialist London and South East based recruitment business Exxell.

The record week’s revenue of £2,000,500 only relates to earnings from temporary recruitment, and will be further bolstered by revenue from permanent recruitment and Acorn’s reputable training division. The group’s turnover for the year has already reached its 2009 total and is heading for the £95m mark by the close of this year.

Acorn’s Founder and Group Managing Director, Matt Southall, said Acorn staff should take great credit for the record week and the company’s continuing year of growth.

“The group’s 250-strong workforce has been phenomenal during the recession, helping to take the company forward despite the prevailing economic uncertainties,” he said.

“It has been a difficult period for employers generally, and the recruitment industry itself. But our staff have worked very closely with all clients to ensure our business relationships have been sensitively managed, and that they continue to develop in all our long-term best interests.

“I have no doubt the excellent rapport we have generated with employers and the consistency of service we’ve delivered have been fundamental to our on-going success.”
