Acorn opens in Gloucester

Acorn, one of the UK's leading recruitment and training companies has strengthened its presence in the South West of England with the opening of a new regional operation to serve Gloucestershire and surrounding areas.

Acorn's new presence in the centre of Gloucester is the latest step in an ambitious UK expansion plan that has already seen the company become the market leader in Wales and one of the fastest developing in the North West and South West of England.

Matt Southall, Managing Director and founder of the £42m-a-year business, said, "Although Acorn is a relatively large recruitment business operating across a number of different regions, we have adopted a very localised approach to our operations - taking time to nurture local business relationships and at the same time supporting local community initiatives.

"We know there is room for a reliable, effective recruitment agency in the area and we are responding to this requirement. Our growth to date has been built on developing good relationships with our customers, through a partnership approach, trust and integrity".

Since forming a partnership with one of Europe's largest recruitment companies, Synergie of France, Acorn has embarked on an expansion programme aimed at creating a £100m-a-year business by 2009.

Mr Southall said, "Acorn will service the large number of employers in the Gloucestershire region seeking skilled and semi-skilled staff, initially concentrating on commercial and industrial vacancies."

He added, "For some time we have been looking carefully at a location for Acorn's first branch in the county. The city centre is a perfect site because it is a busy, fast-growing area with superb access to the bustling economies of the South West and Midlands."

"Acorn has a reputation for excellent candidate development and high levels of client satisfaction; early feedback already suggests it is a move very much welcomed by the people and business in the area."

The branch was officially opened by Grand Slam-winning rugby coach Mike Ruddock, now a full-time executive at Acorn, and Gloucester, England & British Lions hero Mike Teague.

Mr Southall added, "The past few years have seen exceptional growth for Acorn, with the appointment of new, experienced consultants, increased market penetration and the opening of several new offices.

"This wider geographical coverage provides candidates and clients greater choice and opportunity."

The 220-strong company has secured premises at 66, Eastgate Street, Gloucester, to be managed by recruitment specialist Leon Shorthouse, who has moved to the branch from Acorn's headquarters.
