Dan Langford, Group Marketing Director of one of the UK's leading recruitment firms Acorn said, “The increase in permanent jobs is clearly welcome news. There is a long way to go of course before we’ll start to see increased job creation on a consistent basis, but any small signs of improvement in hiring and in confidence generally must be welcomed and promoted widely.
“Acorn places some 5,000 people in to work each day, and in terms of temporary placements over recent weeks we’ve noticed a slight increase in activity – particularly in manufacturing, IT, engineering and in nursing and healthcare - albeit with regional differences being experienced across the country. The number of permanent appointments we’ve made has increased at a slightly higher rate since the start of 2012, which is borne out in today’s figures, and something we expect to see continue.
“Still challenging times of course and although the labour market will continue to remain fragile for the first part of 2012, many employers are expecting it to pick up again by the second half of the year. Indeed, the latest data shows that, more than 80% of employers will be expecting to maintain or increase staffing levels over the coming year.”
